***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

Rotting Christ (Carach Angren)

You are tempted to infer too much from their band name.

Again? \m/

You will ask yourself how it can be that I switch from Brad Mehldau's joys to (hmmm) Rotting Christ? I beg your pardon?!? But it just works out, it is just another type of music and still very much worth heading for.

Lets have a look at Carach Angren from The Netherlands. A keyboard that frantically moves during the performance, but no bass - and the bass is actually missing in their live sound. Compared to Rotting Christ this music also bears much more fragility that fits to their storytelling. These guys perform horror stories on stage, and this is quite convincing to me. A long and impressive performance to be further looked at. The guitarist has a nightmare job, which he just performs flawlessly and with a lot of dedication.

Rotting Christ are quite different. Without having read their history, this band name seems more of a statement than actual program. At stage there is not much left of a true death metal attitude. They just kick serious butt with an extremely powerful and impressive performance. It is just impossible not to like them live. Circle Pits (yes, I am in their Circle Pits ;-) are great fun. My favorite song, Elthe Kyrie, was also a real highlight of the show. Really nothing to complain about this evening, so full score, you deserve it! Let's talk about this band name, however ;-) ....
