A Word

***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

The Sisters Of Mercy II

Location: Arena, Industriegebiet Erdberg, 1030 Vienna, Austria
This gig comes long after their fabulous gig in Wien Stadthalle during their 'Vision Thing' tour and offered a range of nice surprises.

Buddies: Cloudy, Frantischek
Score: 4 out of 5 stars
Another gig? Only with new songs.

Despite of many fans still wearing notorious outfit in 2005, The Sisters Of Mercy is no longer a gothic band (in Mr. Eldritch's opinion, they never were). Tough metal guitars refresh their brilliant songs significantly, and Dr. Avalanche is still in action. So is it a regular metal rock concert? Certainly not. Mr. Eldritch's voice still gives his songs this special taste that cannot be found in any other band. The synths are still those from the nineties. But the songs are contemporary, tough and well performed.

So it is quite logical that the harder songs win. 'Lucretia My Reflection' is just brilliant. Otherwise the setlist does not bear huge surprises, 'More' is missing as always, and I miss the song every time. 'Temple Of Love' is steaming and pumping also without Ofra Haza's backing (so again, why not 'More'?). As always, also the gig is too short. Nevermind, it felt very good seeing The Sisters Of Mercy again after some time, not conserved, but refreshed. Would there be new material, it would be a no-brainer to see them again.
