***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

Superpunk (FM4 Surprise Gig)

Location: Stadtsaal, Mariahilfer Straße 81, 1060 Vienna, Austria
I was not aware that Vienna has its own 'Stadtsaal' on Mariahilfer Straße. FM4 organised a surprise gig of Superpunk, a Hamburg alternative/rockabily band. But even more significantly, this should have been the last concert of their career (if it's true ;-).

No tickets at FM4 Surprise Gigs :).

Buddy: Michael M-W (thanks a lot for taking me with you!)
Score: 3.5 out of 5
Merchandize: no purchase
Another gig? Well, it was their last concert

Although FM4 endorsed this gig and gave away the tickets for free, the venue is not packed. An FM4-typical young crowd prefers to sit in on chairs in the back(!), so us old guys have enough space next to the band.Despite its name, Superpunk does not play any distorted guitar sounds, but clean rockabily sounds from semi-hollow guitars through Fender amps. So clean as clean can be.

This is my first contact with a band that plays its farewell gig - an interesting constellation. Clearly the band plays and sounds in a 'farewell-mode' from the very beginning. They seem to play how they like it best, they make some jokes between or in the songs, they talk to the crowd, there are no necessities to be over-impressive. A laid-back experience, still nice. Only during 'I wurde nicht böse geboren', you can feel some glimpse of power and aggressiveness. Otherwise, it seemed to me that they already started to put out their fires. What's else left to say: 'Farewell Superpunk, all the best, and thanks for the show.' :-)
