A Word

***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

Mogwai & Remember Remember

Location: Arena, Industriegebiet Erdberg, 1030 Vienna, Austria
My impressions from this first Mogwai gig are still stronger than from most of my other gigs. If you have a chance seeing them live, you will understand.

Buddies: Harald

Score: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Merchandize: a cool black Mogwai hood

Another gig? Always and certainly.

Remember Remember is one guy from Glasgow with his instruments, stomp boxes and a looper. His music is reminiscent of Mogwai, and he is great in creating complex musical structures with the looper. All in all, a good support of what is to follow.

Mogwai shows off on the impressive Arena PA, along with their excellent new album 'The Hawk Is Howling'. The album's opener 'I'm Jim Morrision, I'm Dead' opens the gig. What follows is happy music for the happy crowd. The calm sections are brilliant and still very intense, but the switch to distortion is just incredible. You literally feel the sonic waves. Mogwai are sound artists who impressively demonstrate what Telecasters are still capable of. Well, it's actually Telecasters behind a massive arsenal of stomp boxes, but their single coil sounds still lay the foundation (you realize this if distortion lets your ears tingle). The light show has been impressive as well.
Since I post this in retrospect, most of it has been already said in the newer 2011 gig. Since I really do not understand why they leave out 'Hunted By A Freak' on both gigs, same score. Speaking of this song:
