A Word

***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

12 November 2009

Paul Di Anno + Guests

Location: Viper Room, Landstraßer Hauptstraße 38, 1030 Wien, Österreich
Wait a second, EUR 15.10 for seeing the original voice of Iron Maiden (some would say, the only voice)? Sad, but true. Viper was packed with some 350 fans, who are honored to see a good performance despite Mr. Di Anno's apparent health problems.

Buddies: Rainer, Harald, Action, Pez, Michael

Score: 4 out of 5 stars

Another gig? Why not?

Some 4 or 5 support bands from Vienna and Scandinavia (remember the ticket price!) made a good, but far too long job. In particular the Viennese 'Maiden Für Jeden' IM tribute band was impressive. In my honest opinion, the female voice of Suzie Q does at least the same job as Mr. Dickinson does (listen to her version of 'Aces High' and you will agree). But let's stop this blasphemy ... and please don't kill me with hate words for this hickup.
Mr. Di Anno enters the stage with a cane, which he needs due to a knee injury. This does not prevent him and his band from performing a very good gig. The crowd knows the lyrics and the mood is high. The entire concert lasts past midnight (no only 'Two Minutes To Midnight') and leaves me wondering how this can sum up for all these bands. All in all, a decent old school event (literally) that makes you remember old times. As Action put it correctly, the bands would have deserved a larger stage.
