A Word

***Wacken 2018 - view from the Jägermeister Deer

Live gigs are essential. Remembering them is sometimes even more fun (but writing tedious ;-). Short stories about great gigs - and the others as well. This is strictly non-commercial and just my humble taste/opinion.

Them Crooked Vultures & And So I Wach You From Afar

Location: Freiluft-Arena, Industriegebiet Erdberg, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Look at the price tag! Yes TCV has been hyped for their first album. Performance was flawless, anyway. And many thanks for the perfect turtle neck!

Buddies: Pez
Score: 5 out of 5
Merchandize: a very cool hood sweater
Another gig? TCV are no longer...

The by far greatest worry during the entire gig is the weather. Massive black clouds approach Vienna, and in fact, just an hour after the gig, hell breaks loose. So that has been much luck.

Support: I googled the band name. They are from Scotland Ireland and bear a complicated name (they admitted themselves that it's complicated), so no wonder that I forgot them in the first place. They reminded me a bit of Mogwai and I actually liked what they played life. Very much focused on guitars, quite energetic.

Them Crooked Vultures is quite a contrast. All of them are on stage because they like it, no need for self-recognition. Definitely not. Some would say it's on the brink to arrogance, but they apparently can afford it. The crowd cheers everything they do, so they cannot make any huge mistake. TCV is joined by EODM guitarist Dave Catching, which adds to the perfection of the gig. Nothing to add about Dave Grohl, he is simply one of the best of his kind.

Although there is only one album to play, they manage to extend it, along with two new songs, to a full-length gig without lengths. Sound is very good, and so is the overall performance. Nuff said.
