A brief Tour De Force through an electrifying gig
Buddy: Michael
Score: 4,5 out of 5
Merchandise: none
Another Gig: never say never
Michael and me significantly raise the average age of a young audience. One of them even suspects me to be an undercover policeman (however, with a huge smile on his face ;-).
"Bratze" stands for "annoying girl", but two guys enter the stage. Their style resembles Frittenbude, but I do not see too much of them 'cause I'm late. In overall well done.
Frittenbude are punks in a sense that they have a lot to say. They also know who Mr. Strache is and who Mr. Haider were, and they express a clear opinion about them (to say the least). Similar to other punk bands, they are against many things - yet it remains vague to me for what they actually stand. So very punky indeed. Their music is a mixture of rap, electro and alternative rock that just feels right. Sound in Arena is superb as ever, it's simply the best stage in Vienna IMHO.
After a rather slow and ambient start, the band gets in party mode, and they have an easy task with the crowd. Fluffy Toys enter the stage and dance - funny (if there is a message, I don't get it). In the last third of the gig, it's just mayhem (in a very positive sense), pure positive energy. This co-incides with the "Wall of Love" (derived from the infamous Wall of Death from metal gigs): Frittenbude wants the crowd to split and to meet in the middle - not to crash, but to kiss, hug, dance, whatever. In practice, it is not too much differently to watch, i.e. "Wall of Death Light". Still nice. Between the regular set and the three encore songs, Frittenbude tells us: "You Viennese are cute..." - again, I don't really get the message, maybe the younger crowd got it.
After a rather short gig, we chill out at the bar. An excellent way to complete the gig season 2012. Now Christmas Mayhem.
